In Florida We Salt our Margaritas, Not Our Roads

While our friends up north salt their roads during winter snow and ice storms, we enjoy the warm weather of Central Florida. Why do they salt the roads anyway? Well, we decided we would answer that question in this blog.

Salt lowers the freezing point of water. Think about the ocean water vs fresh water bodies. The ocean is very hard to freeze and only does so at the extremes of the North and South poles. Fresh water can freeze overnight. Salt drops the freezing point of water from 32 degrees Fahrenheit to just 15 degrees. People also use sand in place of salt sometimes. It works similarly.
